I use Disqus on most of my blogs--the one's I don't use it on--well it's because I haven't taken the time to set it up. I've recently gone through a complete re-building of blogs. Killed old one's off and started new ones; hence why they don't all have disqus set up yet.
I like it because blogs I do comment on that use it--I'm signed in already. And the popup showing where readers have previously commented isn't too bad either. I always find good stuff that way.

It's ok, I love you for your strong opinions, even when we disagree. I always remember that we are on the same team :)

Jeeze, I sound crabby. (I'm not really. Just giving some strongly held opinions.)

Hey, it's your website. I find when things on blogs change too much or ask for too much from me when I thought I was the one contributing to the conversation that I'm less likely to engage. (Consumerist did this a few times with their commenting system - now I not only don't comment, I also don't read the comments.)

I also dislike things that make pages load slowly, especially when they're calling to another site that may have trouble from time to time.

Thank you for the reply, even if I lost five bucks. I had bet ID would be the first to respond but it looks like I was wrong. I shouldn't have bet against Disqus, at least it was just with my wife...

I didn't realize that there was an option for that in all honesty. I've turned it off and it should fix that issue. I'm a bit confused as to why it is turned on by default and, judging from your recent blog posts I can tell that others seem to be confused by those emails too.

On that note though. The main thing I'd like from Disqus is importing and proper syncing with WordPress threaded comments. Currently, all threaded conversations before I re-enabled Disqus are all flat in Disqus and, if I leave Disqus, all of the threaded convos here will become flat again.

Hope that helps and thank you for posting!

The Facebook integration is turning out to be a bigger deal than even I had though, I'm seeing people using FB to sign comments on PT fairly regularly and TechCrunch reported a significant rise in comments after enabling the feature. I'm not a huge fan of it but the feedback overall has been good. The FB integration options with WordPress are ugly and hacky.

The honest answer though is that a lot of this began when there was no threaded comments feature for WP. Disqus, ID, etc. were able to jump on that feature and have added others, including a centralized place for me to respond to all comments, on all sites (which I am doing right now) and a centralized commenter reputation center. which is sadly underused.

I'm sorry...am I missing something? What's wrong with WordPress's built-in comment system? It now supports threading -- which makes it even better. It's easy to use and Akismet provides an excellent spam protection system. Who needs Facebook integration? (Who really LIKES Facebook anyway?) And how many comments do you get that you need to even THINK about a better solution than what's built into your blogging platform?

I'm obviously missing something here.
