Wow, fax machines too? I use eFax for everything so I haven't been able to dabble in that but wow, it makes sense, well, as much as ANY of this makes sense.

The fact that the fax machine cartridges can't be refilled only makes the problem worse. If I recall, they use laserjet-style cartridges so no they wouldn't be able to be refilled, but that should make them cheaper than the machine. That's how the laser printer market has maintained some sanity.

You might want to look at an eFax service though. I don't know your needs, but mine is about five dollars per month and it works well. Combine it with a scanner and I'm set.

As for your grandson. Well, such wisdom comes out of the mouth of children sometimes. I think he might actually have a point.

I'll go pick up a box tonight...

I'm gazing across the dusty tops of 3 printers, purchased for the same exact reason as you purchased some of yours. But it does not stop there. I also have 2 fax machines, purchased for the same reason, first ran out of ink, second was cheaper than ink for first.

Like you, I too, finally discovered the refill kits and took care of the ink crisis on the computer printers. But the refill doesn't work on the fax machine cartridges. So - guess who'll likely be at Best Buy this weekend looking at spankin' new fax machines?

My 3 year old little grandson actually may have had the answer to all of this. After watching me refill a cartridge and bite back bad words, he ask why this whole ugly process was necessary. I explained, because Mimi needs to write stuff down on paper.

To which he said...

Mimi, I think crayons would be easier.

I've been mulling doing something similar, a low-end laserjet, but I'll look at it much harder now. Thanks for the tip!

I bought a business-class laser printer years ago so I could print poetry booklets. An inkjet cost too much money in ink and too much time for printing. Plus the pages smudged with ink prints. I saved enough on ink cartridges to make up for the cost of the printer.
