The fact that the fax machine cartridges can't be refilled only makes the problem worse. If I recall, they use laserjet-style cartridges so no they wouldn't be able to be refilled, but that should make them cheaper than the machine. That's how the laser printer market has maintained some sanity.

You might want to look at an eFax service though. I don't know your needs, but mine is about five dollars per month and it works well. Combine it with a scanner and I'm set.

Like you, I too, finally discovered the refill kits and took care of the ink crisis on the computer printers. But the refill doesn't work on the fax machine cartridges. So – guess who'll likely be at Best Buy this weekend looking at spankin' new fax machines?

My 3 year old little grandson actually may have had the answer to all of this. After watching me refill a cartridge and bite back bad words, he ask why this whole ugly process was necessary. I explained, because Mimi needs to write stuff down on paper.
